Darlington TSC 3 – 2 Eaglescliffe Elementis

Eaglescliffe travelled away to play Darlington TSC from the 4th Division in the Quarter Finals of the TJFA Challenge Cup.
The game got off to a great start with Eaglescliffe going ahead with-in 2 minutes from a goalmouth scramble as Danny Nixon latched onto a loose ball to blast the ball low and hard into the back of the net. As the game progressed Eaglescliffe’s back four found themselves under pressure from numerous attacks but great defending from Debut boy William Drummond and Will Hutchinson kept the scoreline down. Eaglescliffe’s second came from a brilliant crossed ball from left to right wing from Jack Woollett to Sam Jarps to run on too and drill the ball past Darlington’s keeper. Just before half time Darlington broke through Eaglescliffe’s defence to score finishing the half 2-1 in favour of Eaglescliffe.
Early on in the second half Kieran Durham was unlucky not to score as he drove a long hard shot that hit the post that caught the Darlington keeper stranded on his line.  Darlington found another gear penetrating Eaglescliffe’s defence hitting two unanswered goals levelling the score.  Eaglescliffe battled for the winner but could not seem to find it but unfortunately found themselves on the back foot and Darlington seized the opportunity of open space to score in the final seconds of the game.  Credit to all the Eaglescliffe squad who showed fantastic spirit playing a team flying high in a higher division.  Several players came close to being nominated Man of the Match but Jack Woollett was awarded it by the Eaglescliffe Manager.

STOCKTON TOWN  3-3  EAGLESCLIFFE ELEMENTIS

Eaglescliffe Elementis Win 3-2 on Penalties After Extra Time.

In a match you couldn’t write the script too, Eaglescliffe travelled to Stockton Town from the 4th Division in the 2nd Round of the Challenge Cup.
After a ten week break from a match Eaglescliffe found themselves 1-0 down from a misdirected clearance from the unfortunate Cameron Robertson. Eaglescliffe equalised from a perfect lob over the keeper from 25 yards by Will Hutchinson. Just before half time Stiker Keiran Durham seized onto a ball that was spilled by the Stockton keeper to slot it away to make it 2-1 to Eaglescliffe.
In the second half Eaglescliffe went 3-1 into the lead with a brilliant powerful drive from Winger John Eglinton. A lack in concentration leads to a Stockton comeback with two goals to finish Normal time 3-3.
In extra time Eaglescliffe had their chances with Sam Jarps threading the ball through on numerous occasions only to be intercepted by Stockton’s strong defence.  Eaglescliffe’s centre- back partnership of Danny Nixon and Joe Mitchell where also brilliant as well as Captain Harry Robson who overcame several hard tackles. At the end of extra time it still remained 3-3 and the dreaded Penalty shoot-out loomed.
Eaglescliffe showed determination and grit winning the shoot-out 3-2 to the delight of the Team, and the brilliant support of the nervous, overjoyed somewhat tearful parents.
Eaglescliffe’s MOM was awarded to Goalkeeper Joe Forbes for his outstanding brave performance between the sticks.

Eaglescliffe Elementis 2 – 4 Cumby Rovers

Eaglescliffe travelled to Cumby to play our home fixture due to the pitches being unplayable. Eaglescliffe pulled out all the stops spoiling Cumby’s game defending superbly from the strikers to the goalkeeper to finish the half 0-0.
The second half saw Cumby score three goals before Eaglescliffe woke theirselfs up. Some tactical changes paid off giving John Eglinton his first goal of the day from a great ball from Will Hutchinson. Goalkeeper Joe Forbes pulled off some quality saves to keep Eaglescliffe in the game. Cumby went further ahead as Eaglescliffe where caught flat footed.
Eaglescliffe got their second from a terrific build-up from midfield where Inform Keiran Durham struck a low hard shot that was turned in by John Eglinton.
The MOM was awarded to Goalkeeper Joe Forbes by the superb supporting parents.
