Malcolm (Tacker) Thornton
A very very sad for day for Eaglescliffe Elementis JFC
On the 7th of march Groundsman Malcolm Thornton sadly passed away . He will be sadly missed by every one associated with Eaglescliffe Elementis JFC . Our condolences go out to all of Malcolms family , as this guy really is irreplaceable its not often a guy like Malcolm comes along SALT OF THE EARTH i would say and many others . He was loved and adored by many not just at Eaglescliffe . He devoted so much of his time to the running of the club , the club wouldn't of run as smoothly as it does without him .As chairman of the club i always thought of Malcolm as a good friend who would do anything for you , i will sorely miss him and his humour and his nickname that we gave him sums this guy up SIR MALCOLM , really this guy should of been knighted for what he did .
GOODBYE MALCOLM AND THANKYOU
Malcolm came to Eaglescliffe Elementis JFC bringing along his grandson Connor to play in our then u13's team managed by Mick Ferens . As soon as i met Malcolm i knew i would like him , his humour and wit would always keep you in good spirit if things weren't going well . Malcolm was 71 years of age but had the heart and the energy of a 25 year old . He was up at the club almost every day either cutting the grass , marking the pitches out , rolling the pitches even painting the clubhouse and the containers . If there was a job to do no matter how big or small , it was Malcolms to do , and no matter what the weather he would do it . I remember talking to Malcolm on the phone 2 days before he sadly passed away , even tho he wasn,t feeling very well he was talking to me about jobs he had to do up at the field , and that he couldn't wait for the summer months so he could do even more and spend all day up there . WHAT A GUY . As you can see in the picture above Malcolm is holding a present from the club which was presented to him the day after our presentation eveving as he couldn't make it on the night . The present was a tool box ...LOL... which contained various decorating tools which Malcolm found hilarious , but what you can't make out in his left hand is a crystal trophie which was presented to Malcolm in front of all the children and a lot of parents and all coaches and managers to which he recieved applauds for outstanding efforts for the club .
